Rice
Trade dossier.

Rice is a specification-and-origin trade: variety, milling yield, broken percentage, moisture, chalkiness, residues, packaging and destination policy determine the real value of a shipment.

Know the market
before the transaction.

India is one of the world’s dominant rice exporters; USDA projected 2025 global rice trade at 60.5 Mt and India at a record 25.0 Mt. Separate basmati/non-basmati, parboiled/raw, grain length, broken percentage and destination-specific phytosanitary or policy constraints before pricing.

Commercial lensSpecification + origin + freight + destination policy + buyer acceptance.

The specification
is the asset.

Translate every supplier offer into the complete buyer acceptance envelope before attaching a price.

Core acceptance variables

Variety; average grain length; broken %; moisture; foreign matter; chalky kernels; damaged/discoloured kernels; milling degree; whiteness; head-rice yield; pesticide residues; mycotoxins; microbiology; GMO status where relevant.

Qualification rule

Use agreed inspection and laboratory protocols with representative pre-shipment sampling. For premium rice, verify variety identity and milling yield rather than relying solely on supplier declarations.

Map the
physical chain.

Farm / aggregator → mill → sorting / grading → bagging → port → destination importer / distributor / foodservice / retail.

01Origin

India; Thailand; Vietnam; Pakistan; Cambodia; Myanmar; United States; South America.

02Processing

Paddy procurement, milling, sorting, grading, quality control, packaging and crop-year segregation.

03Destination

West African importers, Middle Eastern distributors, South Asian buyers, foodservice, institutional procurement and retail.

Price the
right unit.

Build the delivered transaction rather than comparing headline origin offers.

Physical economicsOrigin basis + milling/sorting + packing + inland haulage + port + ocean freight + insurance + finance + destination costs.
PolicyExport restrictions, destination duties and food-safety requirements can dominate nominal price movements.

Turn information
into commercial advantage.

Normalize rice to a buyer-accepted specification and delivered destination rather than trading on a generic country quote.

  • Normalize variety, broken percentage and milling basis.
  • Compare credible origin and route alternatives.
  • Match each cargo to a named buyer specification.
  • Make quality, logistics, policy and finance adjustments explicit.

What must be
verified.

Minimum gates before an indicative opportunity becomes executable.

From enquiry
to delivery.

Qualify the product and producer before committing to price or volume.

01Define requirement

Lock variety, quantity, destination, timing and acceptance criteria.

02Qualify supply

Verify origin, capability, title, history and documentation.

03Model economics

Normalize price, quality, freight, finance and contingencies.

04Secure acceptance

Obtain written buyer acceptance against the actual product.

05Contract & verify

Fix quality, sampling, payment, title and documentary terms.

06Move & settle

Control movement, inspection, documents, claims and settlement.

Research basis
& status.

USDA Rice Outlook is the primary live baseline. Refresh policy, crop and origin offers before execution.

Chhattisgarh is
a network, not a grade.

The commercial unit is the qualified mill-and-lot combination. Rice variety, milling form, broken percentage, polish, packing and destination determine the usable price.

OriginRaipur is the principal coordination node, with discovery corridors including Dhamtari, Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Kanker, Saraipali and Jagdalpur. APEDA reported Chhattisgarh at 6.9% of estimated 2024–25 Indian rice production.
Demand2026 public procurement includes large non-basmati rice requirements and HMT/Sortex institutional lots in Chhattisgarh. Procurement units must not be converted to MT without the bid definition.
SpecificationFix variety, grain length, broken %, moisture, polish, foreign matter, packaging, FSSAI status and COA. HMT/Sortex and institutional non-basmati are separate product tracks.
DAM triggerQualify Raipur/Dhamtari/Mahasamund mills against a live buyer requirement, then compare ex-mill and delivered economics.
